You will be walking mostly with an ice axe and crampons while roped up.

Best season for Mera Summit

The pre-monsoon season, which runs from late April to early June, is the ideal time to summit Mera Peak. Clear skies and the most stable weather are available at this time of year, making it perfect for high-altitude climbs. Though weather can be more erratic, late autumn, from late September to early November, can also be a good time if you prefer less crowded trails and colder temperatures. What particular aspects of your climb are you taking into account?

Altitude Sickness

You will spend over a week trekking in a remote mountainous area during this trek, starting at 2000 meters and climbing to a maximum elevation of 6476 meters. At such a high altitude, altitude sickness is therefore a real possibility. When experiencing symptoms of illness like headaches, nausea, dyspnea, elevated heart rate, and uneasiness, it is important to take proactive measures and inform the guide.

Here are some tips to reduce your risk of altitude sickness:

  • Stop and rest where you are.
  • Do not go any higher for at least 24 to 48 hours.
  • Make sure you are drinking enough water.
  • Do not smoke, drink alcohol, or exercise.

Guide and porter

Joining a trekking agency and going on a trek with an experienced, qualified guide will always help to ensure your safety and make the most of your limited time.

It’s important to remember that, per the Nepal Tourism Board, all hikers must obtain the services of a licensed trekking guide and a TIMS card through approved trekking agencies that are officially registered with the Nepali government.

    FAQs

    Why Summit Mera Peak?

Reaching the summit of Mera Peak provides a singular experience of accomplishment and adventure, fusing a demanding yet manageable climbing experience with breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Compared to other high-altitude peaks, its 6,476-meter elevation makes it a less technically demanding climb, which makes it the perfect choice for climbers who want to see the Himalayas' grandeur without the extreme difficulty. In addition to offering amazing views of nearby giants like Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu, the ascent passes through isolated Sherpa villages and pristine scenery, adding to the area's cultural and natural diversity. Mera Peak is a worthwhile objective for individuals seeking to experience an amazing adventure while pushing their mountaineering abilities to the limit.

Is Mera Peak a tough mountain to climb and what skills are required?

Despite being Nepal's highest trekking peak, Mera Peak is regarded as one of the simpler and less difficult climbs. The only challenging portion is the steep ascent and descent that occurs from Chutanga to the Zatwar-La Pass crossing. Reaching Mera Peak's summit is an additional challenging and exhausting aspect. It's not technical, but it does require walking up a snowy ridge, which can be tiring. The climb is difficult due to the altitude gain, but it can be made easier by going slowly and stopping frequently.

How are the lodge accommodation and foods on trek and climb?

Mera Peak Climb is situated far from major towns and villages, off the well-traveled path. To accommodate trekkers, there are a few basic lodges in a few smaller settlements. Basic amenities including shared bathrooms and toilets are provided by these lodges. The altitude, coupled with the bitter cold and severe weather, means that food options are limited and accommodations are basic. The menu usually consists of the Nepali staple Dal Bhat (steamed or boiled rice with lentil soup, seasonal vegetables, and homemade spice and sauce), along with other dishes like pancakes, fried rice, Tibetan cuisines, Sherpa foods, fried noodles with eggs, meat, or vegetables, fried potatoes, mild curry, and chapati (dry bread).

What happens if someone is sick and cannot continue the trek and climb?

To aid trekkers in adjusting to the challenging terrain and high altitude, the itinerary days are flexible. However, there are a few choices available if someone becomes ill and requires a prolonged period of rest or to be relocated to a lower elevation. If the problem is minor, the patient can recover in the same location for a few more days and then return to the group at a prearranged time. In more serious situations, the patient must be evacuated right away, usually by helicopter, and brought to Kathmandu for medical attention.
